Our First Class Train carriage is part of the original "Overland" train & was built in 1905 at Newport workshops in Victoria as part of the Victorian & South Australian Railways program to unify & modernise the rail system between Melbourne & Adelaide.
She was originally a First Class seating carriage, & only 10 of these were ever built. Below is how she looked back then, before we remodeled the interior. On the right is how she looks now.
Later in life she ran the Geelong - Melbourne line & became affectionately known as "The Red Rattler".
Although her days of carrying the rich & wealthy to the Melbourne Cup are over we know you will enjoy your holiday surrounded by nostalgia, memories & comfort - a truly unique & memorable accommodation experience.
The morning sun floods one side of your carriage, & there's nothing in the world quite so decadent as laying in bed with the curtains open & letting the morning sun warm your lazy eyelids, or you can always keep the curtains closed & ignore it.
Master bedroom has a full queen size bed, air conditioning & all the nostalgia of old time First Class travel.
Living area has a fold down futon which is very comfortable for an additional 2 guests, a full en-suite is located at the rear.
Your carriage has a delightful lawn at the front, perfect for relaxation day or night. And a huge lawn at the back, perfect for play for the whole family, especially your dog.
Everybody loves their stay in the "Overland", it's unique, it's comfortable & it's in a brilliant garden setting.
